Do you remember scribbling on the last page of your copies? Our creative patterns and designs were enough to help us think of ourselves as artists! Nowadays, such patterns are known to be doodles.
And the activity of creating or making a doodle is known as doodling. A doodle refers to a continued sketching of a particular pattern upon a dedicated boundary in a paper. Any color pen can be opted for, but usually, a black gel pen is highly preferable. A pattern made of black colored pen on a white surface looks quite pretty.
Additionally, the psychology community has supported the therapeutic effects and benefits of doodling. This is a part of art therapy, a tool that psychologists use on their patients to help them.
The activity helps interpret a patient’s thoughts and understand the trigger points that cause distress. Here are 20 easy doodle ideas that you can start as a beginner and explore further.
Doodle Patterns
1. The Triangle Spiral
The doodle idea is not as complex as the name. All we have to do is start by making a small triangle. Don’t join all three sides and make it into a perfect triangle. Start with the base. Make one small horizontal straight line. Then continue by making a slanted line from one of the ends of the horizontal line. Two sides out of three for the triangle are made. Now, make another slanted line from the other end of the previous slanted line. Be careful not to join this line with the horizontal base. Make a little longer than the horizontal base that we had made at the start.
Now continue making the structure around the previous one. Just maintain a uniform gap between the two triangles. Don’t close the triangle until you have made at least 10 triangle spirals in one place. After this, you can again start with it from a different place in the paper. Continue making different triangle spirals until the page is filled.
2. Cloudy Delight
Do you enjoy watching the clouds in the sky?
If yes, here’s a doodle idea for you. The doodle idea is very similar to the previous one. We start with drawing a small cloud. You can add as many curves as you wish; there’s no restriction!
Stop the pain when you are about to join the curves and close the cloud drawing. Make sure to elongate the curve so that a new cloud can be made surrounding the small cloud. This is how we will slowly continue until you feel that the cloud is big enough for us to close it.
Start the same thing at a different end of the paper. Keep making the doodle until you cover the entire page. The doodle idea is ready!
3. The Starry Night
This doodle idea is quite simple and will help divert your attention and relax. Turn your page in landscape mode. Draw a straight horizontal line with your pen. Once you have covered a little more than the middle of the page, make a spiral.
Do this from either end of the page at least 4 to 5 more times. You can change the size of spirals from big to small or vice versa as per convenience. Make sure to leave ample space between every line you make.
After this is over, pick one line with a spiral. Now, draw another line above it and copy the structure below. But wait. You do not have to make a spiral again. You just have to make a small semi-circle over the spiral.
4. The Rainbow Galore
Start from the corner of a page. Make a small semi-circle. Now, make another one just above it but make sure to maintain a uniform distance between them. Continue doing the same until you have made at least 5 to 10 lines. Or whenever you think it best to stop.
Now you have got yourself your first rainbow doodle pattern. Now continue doing the same thing throughout the page. You do not have to start from the edge now. You can start from the finished rainbow itself or at its corner.
Keep the hard work going until the doodle idea covers the whole page. The doodle pattern is ready.
5. The Shape Mix
Have you tried the first Doodle idea yet?
The triangles turn into spirals. How did you feel after completing the whole page? Do let us know in the comments below.
So the shape mix pattern is quite similar to the first doodle idea. But there’s a catch. We have to draw a mix of shapes on the paper and create spirals of each of them.
Draw a small square starting from the base. Draw the three sides of the square. Make the fourth side longer than the base. Now continue drawing the lines as per the small square at a uniform distance. Continue the drawing until it’s too big.
Now, make a different shape, like a triangle, in the same process. After the pattern is made, try to include other shapes like a rectangle and a circle and fill out the entire page.
6. The Dotted Lines
For this doodle idea, we request you to grab a pencil, ruler, an eraser, and your doodling pen.
So, let us start. Take out the pencil and ruler. Now make rectangles all across the paper. It can be horizontal, vertical, or tilted; however the space allows and you wish to make. Simply make the outlines.
After that, we will get to see many rectangles on the page. Now, take one rectangle and draw 2 or a maximum of 3 lines inside the rectangle. Make sure that you have joined the two smaller sides of the rectangles with 2 or 3 lines with dotted lines.
Trace it with a pen, and the doodle idea is ready!
7. The Leafy Waves
Let us start doodling this doodle idea. Grab a piece of paper and make waves diagonally into the paper. Try to create replicas of the waves, with every curve complementing the other. After the waves are made, create small leaves on both sides of all the waves.
You can choose to make any shape or size of the leaf upon your wish. According to the pattern here, we have to draw thin leaves on both sides of all the waves, reminding us of vines.
8. As the Wind Blows
It is a fairly easy design that works on simple pen strokes in a wavy pattern.
Take a piece of paper. Now keep the pen at one end of the paper and start drawing.
If it is a rectangular paper, make sure that you start doodling in landscape mode. In the case of square-shaped paper, you can start from any side. Start by making a slightly curved horizontal line covering more than half of the sheet, then make a spiral on top. Do this in varied sizes all across the page. You can make the same pattern from the opposite end as well.
9. Leaves in the Dark
Here, we start by making vertical wavy lines from the top of the page to the bottom. The space between the lines does not have to be uniform. Make it a compilation of different sizes.
Now, find the gaps that are formed by curves of two different wavy lines. Once the spaces are selected, start making leaves according to the curves already made.
Follow the curvature precisely and make leaves on every space that you marked before. After the outer boundary of the leaf is made, make a middle partition along with slanted lines on both sides as per the design of the leaves.
Now be ready to scribble. In all the places left blank after making the leaves start scribbling. You may or may not choose a pattern. But the goal is to color the space as much as possible. The darker, the better. Our doodle idea is ready.
Mandala Art
10. Floral Magic
Mandala is part of the doodling idea and is one of the most beneficial doodle ideas. So, let us talk about our first mandala doodle idea.
First of all, we need a compass, pencil, ruler, eraser, and pen. With the help of a compass, make a small circle. This circle will become the center of the entire mandala and help you create a beautiful design. Look at the design above. Start from the centremost circle and then follow every step from the inside to the outside.
The mandala doodle art will be ready.
11. Leaves and Flowers
Start by making a small circle. Now divide this circle into four parts by making light pencil strokes, one vertical and one horizontal line. These lines are also known as the diameters of a circle.
By following the lines, draw small petals, as shown in the picture, to turn the circle into a flower. Make sure to draw an equal number of petals having the same size. Then take seven petals together and draw a leaf on the outside. Here we can achieve four such leaves.
Now, four more leaves are in between the spaces left by the earlier leaves. We get eight leaves in total now. Making the outermost small leaves are optional. Make the designs and details as per the image and trace them with your pen.
12. Designer Heart
Let us design a beautiful heart mandala doodle art now. Here we do not require a compass, but precision is always important. Take a piece of paper and draw a heart. Make the right side of the heart slightly bigger than the left side with bulging curves.
Join both sides in a v-shaped end. First, divide the heart from the middle, as shown in the picture, and then draw the lines on the right side. Just the top-most lines that are big and white than the rest. Now, draw the small lines in different ways, like horizontal, vertical, and slanting. The right side is completed.
Now draw the last side according to the design in the picture. The doodle idea will be ready.
13. Weaver’s Mandala
Now we will share some intricately designed mandala doodle ideas that will be a bit challenging. First, draw a medium-sized circle. Now make small rounded petals all around the circle.
Then make another line of the petals mentioned above in such a way that they border the first line of the petals. Now we will continue the doodle art with a new type of petal. We will make a pointed petal, very similar to a dome. But this line of petals should be larger than the others.
Again, create a border around the second type of petal, as done before. Now, continue the mandala design as shown in the picture to achieve the final design. In the end, draw a large circle to encircle the entire design using the same centers we used initially.
14. Floral Blossom
For this mandala art, start by making a big circle. It should be big enough so that we can draw the flowers as shown above. After making the big circle as a boundary, we will start making the flowers.
Select a spot anywhere near the middle of the big circle and make a small circle for the flowers. These flowers will act as a central point to draw all the other flowers inside the circle. We have to make only a single complete flower.
Now, with the help of this flower, make half the flowers all across it and fill the big circle to complete the mandala doodle idea. After sketching the whole thing with a pencil, trace it with your pen. The mandala art is ready.
Doodle Art
15. House on Air
First of all, start by making a basic boundary of the art. Make the house and the balloons as shown in the picture. Here, we will shape the balloons into perfect circles so that we can add a creative look to the doodle art and add our mandala skills as well.
After the basic structure is ready, start designing. You can choose any pattern to fill the balloons. Try to fill the balloons in different patterns and designs to make them look much more artistic and creative.
The house design can be drawn as it is. This will help in achieving an authentic house look.
16. Beautifully Butterfly
Today we will help you design an exquisite butterfly with precise detailing and patterns. The first step is to draw a rough sketch of a butterfly, as shown in the picture above.
The separate designs will help us use the negative spacing in our favor and enhance the look of the doodle art. Now, fill the patterns inside the butterfly intricately.
The patterns must be similar for both wings. However, upper wings and lower wings can and must have different patterns. Follow the image and experiment with patterns.
17. Tea Party Doodle
Here, we have to join individual drawings of different food items popularly served at a tea party. It is a unique and creative way to print out invitations for the same as well.
Start by making the doodle’s central hook, the teacup. Try to follow the drawing as shown above.
Now, adjoining the teacup, draw the cupcake and donut, followed by ice cream and a piece of bread. Now draw the toffee and strawberry in the places shown above.
After the drawing is complete, trace the whole thing with a pen and make small details like eyes, a nose, and a small smile to the elements to bring life to the doodle idea.
18. The Space Mission
Are you fascinated by space?
If you said yes, then this doodle idea is just for you. First, write the word ‘SPACE’ creatively in capital letters. These letters can be written in any size or design as per choice.
Now, draw different objects related to space, like stars, the Sun, a satellite, an astronaut, the Earth, a meteor, a rocket, UFO, etc. It is not important to draw all the elements as shown in the picture above. Choose the one that you like and which is easy to draw.
After the drawing is complete, trace it with a pen.
Doodle Scenery
19. The Doodle Mountains
We will twist our scenery into a doodle idea, creating a new masterpiece altogether.
Start by drawing a rough sketch of the picture as shown above. Draw the mountains, small valleys, a tree, and the sun. Do not skip the sun rays as depicted in the picture. These creative rays will be an interesting element in our doodle art.
Once the rough sketch or boundary is made, start with doodling. You must have noticed the varied doodle patterns chosen for the image. This is what we have to achieve. Fill the pattern as shown in the image to get familiar with the doodle scenery.
20. The Lighthouse and the Sea
Now we will try to replicate the night scenes near the coast or the sea. As seen in the picture, we will harness the beauty of the maddening waves and create a doodle scenery.
It is very important to understand the small details of the picture. Look at the space left white on the right side of the lighthouse. This place is not left by accident, and we do not have to doodle in this area.
The white space is left to depict the light of the lighthouse. The small mountain-like structure made at the bottom of the lighthouse shows that the lighthouse is standing on land with water all around. So do not confuse the small mountains with waves and ignore them.
