For
a healthy manicure it is necessary to trim your cuticles. Dry, puffy cuticles
can result in dreaded hangnails, which can be painful and become infected.
Caring for your own cuticles will lead to healthy and strong nails.
- The first step is to soak your nails for a few minutes before you cut the cuticles, as this softens them up and makes them easier to remove the dry dead skin. You can opt for using a moisturizer instead, as they both do the same thing, which is to hydrate the skin. This will also help avoid splitting your nails. This step is especially important for toenails. As toe nail skin is even harsher.
- Be very cautious not to damage or irritate your cuticles during the cuticle removing process. If injured, they may swell up or tear and cause hangnails. You would need cuticle remover/cuticle trimmer, buffer, rubbing alcohol, cuticle clippers and an orange stick or metal cuticle pusher. Make sure that the tools you are using are properly sanitized and clean.
- Use a round cuticle pusher/ cuticle trimmer to lightly rub the nail bed with minimal pressure. Your nails will immediately feel smoother and healthier.
- Apply a cuticle remover to the base and sides of the nail.
- Use a round cuticle pusher to lightly rub the nail bed with minimal pressure. Rub in for about a minute. Your nails will immediately feel smoother and healthier. After you've pushed back your cuticles, you can turn to your nippers for any extra hangnails. Again, repeat the process several times for every nail for you to push all the cuticles back. Take a cuticle stick /cuticle trimmer, gently push the cuticle back or a cuticle remover, push back cuticles gently, and then carefully trim away excess skin to keep them well groomed.
- Use nail scissors or clippers to snip off any loose skin.
- Final tip is to apply a cuticle cream or a cuticle oil to maintain the manicure.
